For centuries, Native American tribes protected the bloodlines of the Colonial Spanish Mustang. That legacy was carried forward by renowned conservationist Gilbert Jones, who spent his life locating and preserving some of the purest remaining Spanish Mustangs and founded the Spanish Mustang Registry to protect their future.

Before his passing, Gilbert entrusted Bryant Rickman with the responsibility of continuing that mission. When the horses were forced from Blackjack Mountain in 2007 after the land changed ownership, Bryant refused to let this irreplaceable bloodline disappear. He rescued the herd, found them new homes on donated pastures, and has devoted himself to their care and preservation ever since.

Today, Rickman Spanish Mustangs Sanctuary provides lifelong care for these extraordinary horses while protecting the genetic integrity and historical significance of this endangered bloodline.
